This celebrates the use of esports within sports, including but not limited to partnerships between an esports and sports brand, activation of teams, athletes, governing bodies, rights holders, broadcasters etc. by an esports brand, or a sports brand leveraging an esports brand(s) to create organizational growth.
Judges reviewed entries on the following criteria
- What was the strategy behind this entry
- What direct impact did this initiative/activity have
- What was the desired outcome of the initiative and to what degree was it successful
- Quantitative and qualitative data supporting the entry (e.g. stats and third-party endorsements)

The past year has been pivotal for esports within the sports sector and the opportunities afforded to sports by esports has never been more apparent or exciting.
As the sector’s appreciation of the power of esports and its technologies, has grown, there has never been a better time to refine this category to recognize this fascinating aspect of the industry.
Esports in Sports is a new category and is an exciting reflection of the evolution that has taken place in the sector. Our judges understand this and are looking forward to seeing what the most forward-looking thinkers in the sector have done with the opportunity.
The work which made the shortlist is invariably world-class and visionary, so we are excited to be showcasing this at the Sports Technology Awards ceremony. This will take place on 12 May 2022.
